Arts & Crafts, Shops

Standing strong on the vibrant stretch of Division Street is a shop called MoonKo. Specialising in unique, handmade designs from new and emerging artists, the shop became a lifeline to graduates and emerging designers who needed the support of a friendly platform.

Let’s go back to the beginning. MoonKo began in 2011 with the goal to support fledgling artists, working online independently and with top brands, charities and galleries, in collaboration providing exhibition spaces for them to showcase their work and sell their creations. Since then it has gone from strength to strength with the first shop opening at the end of 2013.

Its name comes from its owner, Debbie Moon, with the addition of “co” (as in friends and company). “Co” became “Ko” and we’ve got the MoonKo we recognise today. This is just the beginning for MoonKo, as the business intends to grow and support more artists, designers and launch their own products this year.

Since opening Moonko has won a number of awards from the likes of Theo Paphitis and Jacqueline Gold, for their efforts in the creative industry and their support for budding artists. Go into MoonKo today and you’ll find an assortment of bespoke jewellery, quirky t-shirts and decorative prints. But that’s not all; the shop also houses charming ceramics, greeting cards, and accessories. This place is full of little treasures that will make beautiful gifts or indulgent treats for the best of us.

This year MoonKo have supported some of our favourite local brands, including Thebearsthebears, Sarah Abbot, Essence + Alchemy, and work from Nick Deakin. With birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas always around the corner, MoonKo seems like the place to go to for perfect gifts. We can guarantee you’ll find some treasures here.
