Hilary & Flo at 959 Ecclesall Road is an interior design shop unlike most others in Sheffield. Its eclectic mix of products is sourced from far and wide with locally made pieces sitting alongside items from across the pond and Europe.
Shelley, the owner, was originally working in training for NVQ’s but had always been creative; from making and selling things in her spare time to re-designing rooms in her house whilst her husband was away on golf weekends. In 2008 an existing business, Fired Arts, came up for sale and she seized the opportunity to try something new and something that she was passionate about. Then in 2015 the shop next to Fired Arts became available and she decided to take the plunge and open her own interior design shop.
The name itself comes from the giraffe and flamingo that can be seen in the shop windows. The girls who work there call them Hillary & Florence, they are a part of the family, and definitely catch your eye as you pass by.
Hilary & Flo is full to bursting point and you never know what will greet you around the next corner. Just wandering around the shop is a real adventure and with products starting at around £3 there are plenty of souvenirs to take home. Shelley is constantly looking for funky and fresh ideas to keep the regulars happy and her enthusiasm for interior design is infectious.
They are also playing host to workshops in the upstairs room from wreath making and crocheting to felting and up-cycling with plenty more ideas in the pipeline.
So, for the creative, and the not so creative, if you haven’t checked out Hilary & Flo be sure to pop in, indulge your wild side and get some inspiration for your next make over!
