A summer bank holiday is the perfect excuse for decadence, and what better way to indulge than with a top-rate breakfast? Sheffield is home to some of the best breakfast and brunch spots you could reasonably ask for. How about trying one of the following out for a big bank holiday brunch?
Steam Yard
Steam Yard is regarded as one of the very best cafés in the city, and its speciality coffee and mouth-watering breakfast menu would make the ideal start to any day, let alone a sunny bank holiday weekend. If the weather report is to be believed, you may even enjoy one of Steam Yard’s thick-sliced, topped toasts basking in the Sheffield sunlight thanks to the café’s iconic courtyard just off Division Street. Oversleep? Steam Yard also flaunts a plethora of cakes and pastries!
Marmadukes Café Deli

Nestled in a side street by Sheffield’s world-renowned theatres, Marmadukes is just as popular with Sheffield’s visitors as it is with its residents, and for good reason. Yet another of Sheffield’s very best cafés with gourmet coffee, Marmadukes boasts a delicious menu using an abundance of homemade ingredients. Before 11:30, if you’re an early riser, Marmadukes may be able to entice you with their tempting breakfast menu, including a full English. Otherwise, brunch is served all day and is delicious whatever time you manage to get down there.
The Cabin

The bank holiday weather we’ve been promised may not conjure images of cozy Canadian log cabins, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy pancakes and waffles from one of Sheffield’s favourite breakfast spots. Over-indulge on all the best sweet breakfasts from across the pond in the homely surroundings of The Cabin, a Canadian-inspired diner serving up waffles and pancakes with an extensive list of toppings including Our Cow Molly ice cream and pure Canadian maple syrup.
Alyssum Café Bistro
If you can brave a walk up the hills of Crookes this bank holiday, reward yourself with one of Alyssum’s breakfasts. Served all day, Alyssum’s breakfast menu puts their homemade potato rosti front and centre, incorporating it into many of their dishes, including the eggs benedict and their signature breakfast. On Barber Road just behind the Ponderosa, a trip to Alyssum can be incorporated into a bank holiday walk in the park. A no-brainer!
Tamper Coffee
Everyone’s favourite New Zealand coffee shop boasts a tantalizing breakfast menu to accompany their first-rate coffee. Why not spend this summer bank holiday in the company of a stunning single-origin coffee and a spot of breakfast from Tamper, if you can narrow your choices down, that is! Tamper has two locations, one in Sellers Wheel, and a smaller location just off West Street.
