Hands up, who likes cocktails? Just as we suspected… everyone. There’s literally a cocktail mixture to suit everyone.
We’re talking about creative concoctions, interesting taste combinations to savour and the handsomest damn drinks you ever had. 2-4-1 pitchers of luminous “fruit” juice and harsh spirits masquerading as cocktails need not apply.
So, purely in the name of research, we’ve paid a visit to some of Sheffield’s finest cocktail bars and rounded up our favourites…
The Wick at Both Ends
The Wick boasts a wide ranging cocktail menu, from drinks that will satisfy the sweetest tooth to more unusual combinations for the adventurous. The Wick’s favourite mixes feature sweet fruits, custard creams, rhubarb and custard and popping candy!
You’ll find your classic recipes such as a mojito or caprihini, as well as really interesting creations and twists on rare recipes. Choose from beetroot juice; dandelion and burdock or balsamic vinegar and strawberries. The vanilla and black pepper spiced julep is definitely worth a try. They also feature a separate absinthe cocktail drinks list for the bohemian among us- Absinthe Minded, anyone? You will be…
The team are already working on a whole host of amazing recipes for their new menu (due February 2016) and with cocktail competition champs in on these sessions, we expect great things…

The Great Gatsby/Daisy’s Bar
Sheffield’s speakeasy-esqe bar, Daisy’s, is hidden away above The Great Gatsby. It’s open Friday and Saturday evenings from 8pm and takes table bookings only. But once inside the intimate establishment, you’re in for a special cocktail experience. Daisy’s has its own exclusive menu, not available downstairs, and a relaxed vibe where the drinks are pretty special and certainly not to be rushed. The Augustus Sours plum flavours are so refreshing, but the Old Tom Nicol is recommended if you fancy something sharper.
The Gatsby below, has a larger selection of cocktails, their flaming Zombies are something to behold and the Shy Boy Mexican influenced mixes add interest to the menu. Drinks do make their way down from Daisy’s with slight twists (such as First Four Years) into the ‘New’ section and are gorgeous takes on the original recipes.
Address: 73-75 Division Street, S1 4GE
The Wig and Pen
Tucked away behind the Cathedral, but definitely deserving of repeated visits, this place is perfect for a relaxed drink (or a chilled first date!). The Wig and Pen serve a seasonal ‘Garden to Glass’ cocktail menu featuring delicious own grown herbs and fruits, combined to create quintessential English flavours. The Hedgerow Rosemary Fizz and the English Garden Mojito deserve special mention, but the whole selection taste fresh, flowery and delicious.
They also serve up amazing versions of classic favourites; their Banging Bloody Mary is one of the best we’ve tasted anywhere. The cocktails are grown up and classy, and you can also enjoy them if you visit their sister restaurant The Milestone.
Address: 44 Campo Lane, S1 2EG
Offer: 2 Big Wig burgers & a bottle of house wine for £20
Picture House Social
We love cocktails. We love pizza. Both in the same establishment is just the BEST TIME EVER, obviously. The iconic building on Abbeydale Road has recently re-opened after a facelift and has fast become the go to place for drinks, live music and film. Basically, it’s where the cool kids hang out. And the cool kids are drinking these cocktails.
The PHS menu is ambitiously updated monthly showcasing 12 different cocktails each time- a mixture of some favourites from previous months as well as brand new recipes, giving more than enough reasons to keep returning. There’s a good choice of spirits and flavours- the Banana Boulevardier is essentially a dessert in a glass but counteract that indulgence with all the fresh blood orange in the Ruby Cartel, you can get some of your 5 a day (not scientifically true, probably…) and then work it off with a game of ping pong.
