As the world turns increasingly meat-free, eateries have had to adapt, learn and innovate.

Being vegetarian or vegan doesn’t mean either lentil soup or mushrooms on toast, there are lots of incredible veggie options throughout Sheffield’s buzzing foodie scene and we’re here to showcase some of the best vegetarian and vegan friendly places to eat in Sheffield. Dining out doesn’t have to mean being left out.

The Bhaji Shop – Thali Cafe

Veggie & Vegan Friendly – Truth be told, it would be extremely difficult to choose a favourite dish from arguably one of Sheffield’s most popular veggie eateries, as it’s all good. But we find ourselves making repeat visits for their onion bhaji’s, dahl and flatbread. Dunking is not only accepted, it is encouraged.

They’re well known for a veggie/vegan breakfasts but their delicacies lie in the cake department. They’re master bakers and some say they’d even given Mary Berry a run for her money. They provide an extensive range of gluten free, vegan friendly cakes so that everyone can indulge. Their most popular is probably their Guinness cake but we can’t speak highly enough of their kiwi and lime cheese cake.

Upshot Espresso

Veggie & Vegan friendly – In case you can’t tell by now we love Upshot Espresso, their passion & attention to detail appeals to our slight OCD side.  The dish to look out for is their avocado on toast, with sumac (a spice) and a lathering of chilli jam, it’s vegan friendly and a total winner. There’s also always a vegan salad, soup and sandwich on the lunch menu which changes weekly so you’ll find yourself going back, time and time again.

Urban Choola

Veggie Friendly – The soon to be newest addition to Eccy Road is Urban Choola, an eatery that represents hundreds of years of what Indians actually eat. They’ve been based on London Road for a few years now but need to move onto bigger and better things. But let’s not get distracted..the food…if like us you’re always hungry, we recommend their veggie Thali. This dish is more than substantial which will almost make you tempted to share, but trust us, choosing your least favourite dish to donate is too difficult we recommend just keeping it all to yourself.

The Beer Engine

Veggie & Vegan friendly – As a veggie, going out for tapas is always an occasion that should be approached with caution and one eyebrow raised. The Spanish love their meat and a vegetarian or vegan option is often an after thought. But to our surprise the tapas menu at The Beer Engine breaks the mould. There are so many great options to choose from it almost becomes difficult not to order them all, and with 2-4-1 on tapas on Monday’s you’d be crazy not to! But the good news doesn’t stop there, on Sundays they do proper veggie and vegan roasts that are rapidly becoming more popular than the meaty ones.

Offer – 2-4-1 Tapas on Monday

– 17 Cemetery Road, Sheffield S11 8FJ

Italia Uno

Veggie & Vegan friendly – With a dedicated vegetarian and vegan menu, Italia Uno needs to be on your speed dial. One of our favourites is the Pane Rustico, a freshly baked pizza base topped with fresh tomato smothered in herbed olive oil and drizzled with balsamic vinegar. It could make excellent sharing plate for a lite-bite but we don’t tend to share, it’s too nice!

It brings a feeling of warmth when we talk about the lovely crew over there. Their menu is extensively veggie & vegan friendly but we need to make you aware of one of our all time favourites. Their Brie, spinach and chili jam quesadilla, is just jaw dropping and like most of their lunches it comes with a selection of two salads from their deli counter.
